We communicate in German and English.
We cannot guarantee that a team member who currently speaks your language will be available when you contact us.
If possible, please ask a friend, family member or another trusted person who speaks German or English to help you contact us.
How we can support you
Are you currently in immigration detention in Germany?
We support people in immigration detention in having their detention legally reviewed.
Our support is free of charge.
Our main focus is immigration detention and the legal review of your detention.
We can help you with
- reviewing your detention documents and explaining your legal situation
- checking whether your detention is lawful
- filing applications and legal remedies concerning your detention
- supporting you as your trusted person in detention proceedings
- helping you understand what is happening in your case
- supporting your lawyer if you are already represented by a lawyer
- involving family members, doctors, counselling centres or other professionals if you want us to
- helping you establish contact with people who can support you
- referring you to other counselling services or lawyers if your question concerns something outside our area of work
We look at your individual situation and explain as clearly as possible what we can and cannot do.
Sometimes we can help people who are being unlawfully detained to get released from detention.
If you are deported despite everything, we can help you find suitable counselling or legal support for your further residence-related questions.
What we cannot do
We cannot guarantee that you will be released from detention or that your deportation will be prevented.
We also cannot take over your entire residence or immigration procedure.
Our main focus is immigration detention and the question of whether and how your detention can legally be challenged.
We cannot promise a particular outcome. What we can do is carefully examine your case and use the available legal options to challenge your detention.
We are volunteers. If we receive many requests at the same time, we may not be able to support everyone ourselves. If we cannot take on your case, we will try to help you find another suitable counselling service or lawyer.
Your trusted person
A trusted person is someone you choose yourself who can support you while you are in immigration detention and help you exercise your rights.
You can appoint a person you trust. This person can be informed about your detention and can participate in the detention proceedings in your interest and in their own name.
If you want someone from our team to take on this role, please contact us first. We will explain what it means to appoint us as your trusted person and how we can support you in having your detention legally reviewed.

If you are contacting us about someone who is already detained, you can also contact us as a family member, friend or other supporter.
Information that is helpful
If possible, please send us:
- the detained person’s name
- date of birth and country of origin, if known
- where the person is detained
- a telephone number or another way to reach the person
- the detention order and any other documents you already have
- information about what has happened so far
- any known deadlines
You do not need to have all of this information.
If you are missing documents or do not know all the details, please contact us anyway. We can work out together what information we still need.
We will then try to contact you or the detained person and discuss how we can help.
Support while in detention
People in immigration detention can contact organisations that provide support to people in their situation.
If you need help contacting us, you can also ask the social services at the detention facility to help you establish contact with a support organisation such as ours.

We are volunteers and our main focus is the legal review of immigration detention.
We are not a law firm. If you need legal advice about your residence status, asylum procedure or other immigration matters outside detention, we may need to refer you to another counselling service or lawyer.

You also do not need to have all your documents ready.
